THE MINTED 50

Another collaboration with Minted, this time the much-hyped Minted 50. The puzzle that needed to be solved was to create something that communicated the breadth of Minted’s design well beyond their stationery and weddings. We wanted to let the world know about their art, textile, and home expertise. And of course to showcase the size and experience of their world-class artists and designers.

In collaboration with creative Andy Spade and Minted, the marketplace for the world’s best emerging artists, we launched the Minted 50: a series of 50 design projects by 50 independent artists and creatives over 50 days.

The Minted 50 celebrates design and independent creators, including influencers and artists and members of the Minted community of artists. The campaign featured a unique project each day for 50 days, ranging from portraiture and films to interior design and prose. At the end of 50 days, all of the projects were exhibited at our gallery in New York City, and are being auctioned off to benefit RxArt, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help children heal through the extraordinary power of visual art.

A FEW OF OUR FAVORITES

Liev Schreiber, a founding partner of the advertising collective Van’s General Store, and Mariam Naficy, founder and CEO of Minted, kicked off the Minted 50 with an exquisite corpse painting. Exquisite corpse is a game in which one person starts a picture or poem, then gives it to someone else to add another layer or line. Mariam and Liev sent their artwork to artists around the country who contributed their own artwork.

Scott Carlson—artist, adman, and co-founder of VGS—wrote a story. A very short story. Then he collaborated with Rob Trostle to create the book cover. Discover your inner storyteller: Create your own six-word story and find a friend to illustrate it.

We challenged Andy Spade, co-founder of Sleepy Jones, to design a five-piece bedding set. To participate, create an inspiration board for the bed of your dreams.

Create a sculpture with materials found at a dollar store for $10 or less. We challenged New York photographer Blaise Cepis to create his own ten-dollar masterpiece.

Get creative with entertaining essentials—design a dining set by painting paper or plastic plates. Designers Andy Spade and Kate Valentine Spade created party-perfect looks that we’d love to mix and match.

Reimagine and reconstruct an everyday object to create a toy. Artists Yuky Hwang and Evan Chang started with a wooden chair and gave an old stuffed animal new life.

Raid your craft or junk drawer for 3 random objects or materials and make a sculpture. Artist Olaf Breuning made a sculpture entitled ‘Golden Boy’ with clay, gold paint, and a piece of wood.

Create a beautiful bookmark. RxArt artists Ann Craven and Daniel Heidkamp designed bookmark sets featuring their own original art.

In just 24 hours, writer and illustrator Kristen Radtke and her collaborators created a book of original short stories, artwork, and poetry.

This is not your grandmother’s birthday card. We challenged writer and executive producer Shonda Rhimes to add her own fresh perspective to the greeting card world by writing messaging for a birthday card. Get inspired by her ideas and create your own with an original message.

Have a pizza party! Use the empty pizza boxes, grease stains and all, as the canvas for a piece of art. Designer Andy Spade invited his creative friends to a pizza party in New York City and shared the genius.

Find evidence of the supernatural in your neighborhood. Document it. Photographer Daniel Arnold ventured into the heart of NYC and discovered Bigfoot in his urban habitat.

It’s time to play. Use toys to create a piece of art. Artist Lowell Boyers took on a 10-foot canvas, using suction cup arrows, bouncy balls, and a tricycle as his brushes.

Nadine Steklenski, Vice President of Product Design and Development for Target creates her own hand drawn book.

Make an ordinary object extraordinary. Donna Antonijevic, Minted’s social media manager, turned a plain folding chair into a whimsical work of art with some hot glue and a lot of pom poms.

Transform a standard eye chart into a work of art. Minted artist Jennifer Wick turned her creative eye to the doctor’s office staple, and designed a piece of typography art we could stare at all day.

THE MINTED BOX PROJECT

We had a great time sourcing designs from Minted designers for the inside of a shipping box. We used these designs to line the inside of the boxes and sent them all around the world. It was a great surprise for customers and we had a lot of fun doing it.
